Is The Peddler affiliated with any other publications?
No, the Peddler is an independent, locally owned company. We have two offices, in Clarksville and Hopkinsville. We print and distribute 30,000 issues each week to over 11 counties, including Ft. Campbell.
Where can I find a copy of The Peddler?
We distribute The Peddler FREE of charge at over 430 locations in our 11 county coverage area. Locations vary from grocery stores to gas stations, restaurants, professional offices, salons, and more. The best time to find a new issue is shortly after delivery, Thursday afternoon or early Friday. The racks may become depleted as the weekend progresses. If you need assistance in finding a copy please call us. We can direct you to a nearby location or give you directions to one of our offices.
We also have archives of past issues on file in our offices. If you need to research a past issue, you are welcome to do so in our office. You can also browse many past issues in our online archives. Why aren’t The Peddler’s ads “classified?”
Listings in The Peddler are placed at random. This has been done intentionally since the very first issue in 1983. We have found that this arrangement is the most advantageous for our advertisers, since it ensures that all of the pages are read, not just certain categories.
Of course, we are aware that it would be more efficient for readers to immediately locate and examine only the categories of interest to them. While some may find our non-classified arrangement inconvenient, our 28 year record of success proves that it is quite effective. We receive consistent feedback from readers who enjoy the diverse variety of interesting ads. Every issue is full of local bargains, and it is well worth the time and effort.
Our regular advertisers have consistently good results because of the random ad placement. Your ad is guaranteed to be seen by tens of thousands of local patrons.
The one exception to random ad placement are Professional Listing ads. These listings are guaranteed placement on the first available page at the front of each issue. These ads are reserved for business and services and serve as a practical, easy-to-find guide for our readers. See our “advertise” page for more information about Professional Listing ads.
You may place your ad through our secure website following our simple, step-by-step instructions in the “advertise” section.
Other electronic methods include emailing us directly or faxing your ad and payment information. See “about us” for email and fax information. Be certain you include proper payment information or that your ads qualify as free ads. When faxing be sure to include your contact information.
If you prefer a more personal transaction, you are welcome to visit us in person or place your ad over the phone Monday-Friday 9am-5pm. Our helpful customer service reps will be happy to assist you in making your advertising choices.
You are welcome to mail your ad and payment to either location. If you choose to mail your ad, please be certain you send the correct amount for the type of ad you expect to receive; and keep in mind we require receipt of your payment by Monday 5pm.
If you have questions or concerns about ad placement, please call us.
When will my ad appear in The Peddler?
A new issue of The Peddler is distributed & posted online every Thursday. The deadline for each week’s issue is MONDAY 5PM. You may place your ad during business hours or anytime online, but you must have your transaction completed by our deadline to be in the next issue.
(Deadlines & distribution dates may vary due to holidays).
How do “Holidays” affect your deadlines?
The Peddler is closed on Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Day. Due to production and printing time requirements we must print early to compensate for each holiday. Therefore, on any of the holidays mentioned, we will always have an EARLY DEADLINE on the FRIDAY prior to the normal Monday deadline. The exact dates will be published in The Peddler weeks in advance of the early deadline. The Peddler also has an annual holiday vacation the last week of December. Depending on the calendar, we close for one week and re-distribute the previous issue. This is a special “double issue”.
Can I get a refund if I cancel my ad?
Circumstances vary depending on the time of the cancellation and the type of ad. The ad must be cancelled PRIOR to the deadline to be deleted from that week’s issue.
If you paid for multiple weeks of the following types of ads you could cancel prior to deadline and qualify for refund: Personal Service, Business Word, Borderline, Business Photo, Professional Listing or non-contract Display ad.
If you purchased a personal ad for the multiple-week discount, and your ad has already been published once, no refund will be issued. These ads are sold as a package, not “by the week”. You may cancel before the next deadline if you sell the item before your weeks expire. No substitutions will be allowed to be advertised in place of sold item.
What is The Peddler’s policy on advertising of animals?
We gladly accept ads for selling or giving-away pets and animals. The charges for animal ads differ from regular personal sale ads.
The only animal ads that we run at no charge are “FREE to good home” ads. We hope this service assists in locating good homes for all animals.
If you are selling any single animal or quantity of animals you will be charged for a “Personal Service Ad” (quantity sale). This is because we cannot regulate how many animals a person sells from one ad. Even if your animal(s) are under $250 each, the cost for advertising is $7 per week.
Does The Peddler run “personal” ads?
The Peddler does NOT accept personals (seeking relationship ads).
While we acknowledge that there are many legitimate avenues (including local papers and websites) for seeking companionship and meeting potential partners, the purpose our publication is solely for advertising items and services.
Many relationship ads presented to us in the past have been discriminating, controversial and/or suggestive. We cannot screen advertisers, and we have often found that unverified ads of this nature can be potentially dangerous or misleading. We feel it is in the best interests and protection of our readers if we decline ads of this nature. We apologize for any inconvenience.
Because of similar reasons, we do not accept child ADOPTION ads of any nature.
Does The Peddler have discounts for new advertisers or extended contracts?
Yes. We offer three “Introductory Packages” for new display advertisers. These packages feature a variety of sizes extending a 4-week period.
We also offer discounts for display advertisers who run every week on a 3-month, 6-month or 1-year contract. Please contact our office for specific details. An experienced sales rep will be happy to assist you in choosing the right package for your business.
Does The Peddler offer graphic design services?
Yes. Our experienced graphic designers can help you design logos, business cards, stationery, brochures and more. Rates are hourly and we provide the finished artwork in a digital format for you to have printed and processed. Please call for more information.
Does The Peddler accept “Inserts”?
Yes. The advertiser may ship us “pre-printed” inserts, circulars or flyers for insertion into our publication. The maximum size is 6”x10” (8-1/2”x11” flyers must be folded before shipping to us). We can insert and distribute up to 30,000 (minimum 5,000?) at a charge of 3.5¢ each. Arrangements must be made through one of our offices at least 1 week in advance and new advertisers must pay in advance.
Does The Peddler protect it’s readers from scams?
Please understand that The Peddler does not have the resources to investigate every individual or business who places an ad in our publication, nor can we determine the motives of advertisers. Occasionally a crooked or fraudulent advertiser is revealed to us. If we become aware of a potential risk to our readers, we discontinue the ad as soon as possible and take necessary action to investigate the advertiser.
If you suspect illegal activity, fraud or misrepresentation involving any ads published, please contact the appropriate authorities.
In addition, we encourage buyers and sellers to notify our office if you suspect fraud, so we can use the information to help identify the persons/businesses involved and screen future ad placements to protect our readers.
PLEASE thoroughly investigate and exercise caution before proceeding with any transaction. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is.
Some common sense guidelines to help you avoid being scammed:
•Deal locally with people you can meet in person. Follow this rule and you will avoid most of the scam attempts.
•Never “wire” funds.
•Be aware that fake cashier checks & money orders are common. Banks will usually cash them, but when the fake is discovered weeks later, YOU will be held
responsible. Deal in cash or have the buyer meet you at a financial institution to make the transaction.
•Never give out your financial information: bank account number, social security number, etc.
THE PEDDLER IS NOT INVOLVED IN ANY TRANSACTION. We do not handle payments, guarantee transactions or offer buyer protection. You are responsible for investigating any transaction you choose to become involved in.
Be extremely cautious of the following situations:
•No telephone number is listed in ad; the only contact with advertiser is through an untraceable email address.
•The advertiser is someone who appears to be conversing over long distance, often in a foreign country.
•Request payment through Western Union, Money Gram, cashier's check, money order, shipping service or escrow service.
•Inability or refusal to meet face-to-face before consummating transaction.
•Scammers usually “guarantee” the transaction.
•Distant seller asks for a partial payment up front, after which he will ship goods. He will say he trusts you with the partial payment or may tell you that he has already shipped the goods.
